Alicia Koplowitz Foundation has announced the Call for Scholarships and Grants for 2009. This year, we offer Advanced Training Grants of two years duration for MIR and psychiatrists or psychologists via RIP to specialize in the care of children and adolescents in hospitals in the U.S. and UK. In addition, it offers Short Stay Fellowships for one to six months for psychiatrists, psychologists and doctors in Neuroscience can expand their knowledge in reputable international institutions. Finally, the Alicia Koplowitz Foundation provides financial support to research projects on autism, schizophrenia, depression, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, anorexia and bulimia, as well as early neurodegenerative diseases such as multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ataxias.
For the proper development of these projects, the Alicia Koplowitz Foundation has established partnerships with some of the most important international centers in the field of Psychiatry for Children and Adolescents. In particular, agreements with the Columbia University Medical Center in New York, the Western Psychiatric Institute & Clinic Pittsburgh, St. Marys Hospital in London, the Bellevue Hospital Center in New York and Psychiatry at the Maudsley King s College London.
In this regard, Dr. Margaret Lawrence, Coordinator of Medical Programs Science Alicia Koplowitz Foundation, said Spain, together with Latvia and Romania, is one of the few European Union countries that lack the expertise Medical Child Psychiatry. This fact leads to shortage of professionals specializing in the care of specific psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents. He added Alicia Koplowitz Foundation takes five years to fund the specialization of Psychiatrists and / or psychologists in the care of children and adolescents. Alicia Koplowitz Foundation was created in 2003 with the aim of supporting research and training of health professionals specialized in the field of Psychiatry and Psychology for Children and Adolescents. About the Program Mental Health Support for Children and Adolescents
Within the Program of Support to Mental Health for Children and Adolescents, the Alicia Koplowitz Foundation Fellowship funded the Advanced Training in Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychology for long stay (two years) and Scholarships Training and Research for short (one to six months) in foreign research centers and prestigious assistance. Furthermore, the Alicia Koplowitz Foundation awards the grants for research projects in the areas of psychiatry for Children and Adolescents, Early and Neurodegenerative Diseases.
The Aid for Neuroscience Research in Psychiatry and Alicia Koplowitz Foundation are intended primarily to promote the development of knowledge in this field by supporting original research projects taking place in the hospital, university or research in Spain . These grants are awarded through an expert committee that advises the Alicia Koplowitz Foundation, which evaluates projects based on some main lines of research established, like autism, schizophrenia, depression, attention disorders and hyperactivity The eating disorders, and neuropharmacology in childhood and adolescence. The duration of the projects have a maximum duration of two years.
